City of the Dead, Niflheim

Overview

Niflheim is known as the town of the dead. Although the town has the same accommodations as a normal town such as weapon shop, armor shop and tool shop, monsters freely wander about the town as well. A creepy atmosphere envelops this town that is infamous for the disappearance of thousands of adventurers.

Niflheim consists of one town map and 2 field maps. Since so many have already failed to investigate this area, any future adventurers had better prepare themselves well.

Warning: If you die in town you WILL lose EXP! Be careful when idling there!

Story

After conducting much research, Scholars concluded that the famous Tree of Umbala might be a part of the legendary Yggdrasil Tree. They began to wonder where the tree may lead them. Rumors of an incredible fortune at the end of the tree were spread amongst the adventurers of the Rune-Midgarts Kingdom.

It was not long before brave fortune seekers started traveling into the Umbala tree. One by one, they entered with hopes of finding a dreamland of vast riches. Strangely enough, they never came back.

Alarmed by the number of missing people, Tristan III ordered his troops to find out what happened. Many Priests, Crusaders and Knights ventured inside, but the few that returned seemed traumatized, their souls wrenched from them. They always replied incoherently: "Dead...everything is dead over there....f-freezing..."

Tristan III realized his troops alone could not investigate this matter, and encouraged adventurers to explore the Umbala tree. The Prontera Sanctuary sent Priests and Crusaders, and well-experienced Sages from Juno's Schweicherbil Magic Academy joined. The adventure to explore the legend of Yggdrasil had begun.

How to Access

Route 1 (Walking): Travel through the Umbala dungeon (Hvergelmir's Fountain), then through two field maps to reach Niflheim town.

Route 2 (Shortcut): In Umbala, dropping from the middle platform near the top (138, 199) has a chance to warp you to Niflheim. If it fails, you drop to the bottom and can try again. If it succeeds, you arrive inside a house with all HP depleted.

Route 3 (Eden Group): The Bathory NPC in the Eden Group kitchen will warp you to Niflheim for 1,000z.

Dangerous NPCs

Niflheim has a unique feature: several life-threatening NPCs. When you talk to them, they drain a portion of your HP and/or SP. This drain is not damage and cannot be reduced by Kyrie Eleison or similar effects. The drain will not kill you even if it reduces HP to 0.
