Guardian of Yggdrasil

Discover the cave beneath the World Tree, research its ancient lore, and earn access to Nidhoggur's Nest instance by playing the Laphine and Sapha tribes against each other.

Prerequisite: Access to the New World

Start: Yggdrasil Gatekeeper (nyd_dun02)

Unlocks: Nidhoggur's Nest Instance

Part 1: Discovering the Cave

Step 1 - Enter Yggdrasil Dungeon

Enter Yggdrasil Dungeon at (spl_fild01 368/112).

Step 2 - Hidden Portal

Enter the portal located at 3 o'clock of the map (nyd_dun01 252/144). This portal is not shown on the minimap. The portal markings on the minimap are exits only.

Step 3 - Strange Device Puzzle

Once in level 2, walk right until you've reached a cliff. Control the "Strange Device" at (nyd_dun02 137/274) and cross the canyon by stepping on the circles. Stepping anywhere outside the shown circles returns you to the bottom right corner of the previous map. Rogue-type classes can use Stealth, but be sure to turn it off at the last circle so the next one appears.

Step 4 - The Gatekeeper

After crossing the cliff, follow the path of stairs and roots until you arrive at a gate at (nyd_dun02 99/199). Talk to the Yggdrasil Gatekeeper.

Part 2: Researching the Lore

Step 5 - Hibba Agip

Go to Midgard Camp's center building (mid_camp 215/248) and tell Hibba Agip (mid_campin 90/121) about the cave you found. He tells you to find Historian Magnifier.

Step 6 - Historian Magnifier

Ask Historian Magnifier (mid_camp 271/299) for help. He tells you to visit his assistant in the Prontera Library.

Step 7 - Prontera Library

In the west Prontera Library (prontera 120/264), talk to Assistant Naomi (prt_in 171/94) and offer to help her. Keep talking and she will give you several papers to read.

Step 8 - Back to Magnifier

Return to Historian Magnifier and say you read all the stories. He tells you to investigate what the Laphine and Sapha know. Choose to go to either the Laphine or Sapha.

Step 9 - Choose a Tribe

You have two branches to choose from:

Laphine Branch

Talk to the Grumbling Soldier in Splendide (splendide 198/178) and ask about the cave. Go inside the central building (splendide 197/191). Speak to Commander Lebiordirr (spl_in01 110/60).

Sapha Branch

Inside the building in the far right of Manuk (manuk 309/142), talk to the Laphine Prisoner (man_in01 291/62). Talk to Neat Etorr (man_in01 311/57) in the same building.

Part 3: Gaining Access

Step 10 - Agip's Scheme

Return to Historian Magnifier (mid_camp 271/299), he tells you to speak to Commander Agip. Hibba Agip (mid_campin 90/121) decides to ask both tribes for help exploring the cave, forcing each to cooperate to prevent you from getting help from their enemy. Choose which tribe to approach for assistance.

Step 11 - Tribal Assistance

Choose which branch to follow:

Laphine Branch

Speak to the Laphine Commander and threaten to ask the Sapha's help if she refuses. She agrees and sends you to Aide Arioss (spl_in01 104/56), who gives you a guardian token and the password to get past the door.

Sapha Branch

Return to Manuk and talk to Neat Etorr again. Talk to the Laphine Prisoner twice.

Step 12 - Nidhoggur's Nest

You can now enter the Nidhoggur's Nest Instance. Clear the instance and talk to Yggdrasiliad in the final room.

Step 13 - Claim Reward

Choose if you want to go to Splendide or Manuk for your reward:

Splendide Reward

Talk to the Laphine Commander, then Aide Arioss. Receive 150,000 Base EXP, 3,500 Job EXP, and 10 Splendide Coins.

Manuk Reward

Talk to Neat Etorr, then the Laphine Prisoner. Receive 150,000 Base EXP, 3,500 Job EXP, and 10 Manuk Coins.

Rewards

150,000 Base EXP, 3,500 Job EXP, 10 Splendide Coins or 10 Manuk Coins (your choice). Permanent access to the Nidhoggur's Nest instance.
